Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem autoimmune disease, which remains challenging to manage due to its varied presentations and (often) ever-changing course. While there are few very good textbooks on SLE, the need for a concise and easy to assimilate pocket size volume was long felt. In this regard, this latest title by the Oxford Rheumatology Library fills the void and is a valuable resource for rheumatologists and other specialists who also deal with different aspects of SLE such as dermatologists, nephrologists, and obstetricians as well as general practitioners.

The volume contains well-written chapters by experts including Anisur Rahman, Graciela Alarcon, Bevra Hahn, and Anthony Isaacs on a range of topics such as epidemiology and clinical features and investigations of SLE. Therapies both conventional and biological have been discussed in depth. Chapters on juvenile SLE and pregnancy and other special situations are very useful.

The layout is pleasing and each chapter has key points highlighted at the beginning. Chapters are easy to read with useful subheadings and plenty of tables and figures. This pocket-size volume on SLE is an essential tool for the practicing clinician.
